The Crystal Garden Saga

The Crystal Garden Saga

The Crystal Garden Saga

Do you enjoy the call of adventure? The promise of Romance? The magic of Fairy Tales? Then step through the gate and enter into the realm of The Crystal Garden Saga. A young adult fantasy series By LJ Gastineau that takes place in a world where the seeds of truth are found in the most fantastic of tales. This world while wonderful is not immune to evil, and as corruption spreads the power imbued within the roses of the Crystal Garden are scattered and secreted away until new heroes rekindle the old tales and prove themselves worthy. Join these special chosen in their adventure as they begin their quest to restore this magic land and drive back the darkness that is destroying it.

Your journey begins with Frozen Reflection. In it you follow Bianca Flynn. Her adventure begins on her sixteenth birthday a day she thought would be like any other, stuck at home with a step-mother she doesn’t like. Instead she finds herself plagued by a strange reaction to apples and an odd phobia of mirrors which quickly spirals out of control throwing her into a world that she thought only existed in stories. As she wanders in this new land she learns it is cursed by a spell that can only be broken with the power of a crystal rose.

Book two, Quaking Tower, picks up where Frozen Reflection left off and follows Cybele Lockley a young girl who’s led a sheltered life, separated from the world by a medical condition with only the occasional company of her grandmother Cybele longs to be free. In secret she creates a make-believe world in an old note book, a story filled with romance and adventure of a character based on Rapunzel. Everything changes for Cybele on her sixteenth birthday when she tries to cut her hair for the first time. The world around her shifts to match that of her story and she is left to discover who she truly is as she seeks out the crystal rose.

Gusty Proposals is the third story in this epic quest and tells the story of Violet Piccolo. A young girl who has had every decision in her life made for her by overbearing parents. Everything from the type of clothes she wore to the friends she kept. She has obeyed their wishes without protest. On her sixteenth birthday things change when her father forces her into a relationship with his boss’s son in an attempt to advance his career and Violet makes a stand for the first time. Her rebellion has unexpected consequences as she shrinks to a mere few inches high. Her troubles don’t stop there though as the petite girl soon finds herself in another world filled with wonder, danger and magic. Though now free of her childhood shackles Violet finds herself confronted with others who believe they know what is best for her. To fly free she must discover who she really is so that she might achieve her destiny. To do this she’ll have to learn that sometimes just standing isn’t enough, somethings must be fought for as she seeks the crystal rose.

More adventures await you in Drowned Voice the fourth installment in the Crystal Garden Saga. Look for it coming soon.

Getting Back on Track

To say my train had gotten derailed would be an understatement. This is equally true of biting off more than I could chew. What I thought was going to be an easy to stick to writing schedule was a much like the cake; a lie. I first got mixed up with which story was supposed to be undated when.  Then I became overwhelmed as more projects landed in my lap, some of which I’ve been working on for some time plus some family situations which included taking Zidane to the vet. Don’t worry, he’s fine outside of being angry with having to take medication everyday which requires for him to get picked up which he hates, but he’ll get over it. So the new schedule is by the end of this month for next Sunday’s update will be the long awaited chapter 11 of Hidden Mystique posted on the JukePop Serials site. I will also unveil a new cover for the serial which I totally love and can’t wait to share.

So, thank you for your patience. It’s been difficult trying to get the stories moving again, but I will succeed.  The characters just have to be pushed along a bit.

And So Our Adventures in Writing Continue…

As you can see, we are back! So far this year has kicked off with lots of deadlines, goals, and of course work. I had to tack on 5K more words to Frozen Reflection for the Amazon Novel Breakthrough Award Contest. It was tricky, but the additional content has improved the story overall. I’ll be updating the story in the relaunch this Spring/Summer. I have also achieved making the 50K for NaNoWriMo last November. It was a tremendous feat that I am still quite shocked to have succeeded in.

A Taste of Something New…

I had announced several months ago that my serial fiction story, Hidden Mystique was now live on JukePop Serials.  It is currently up to 10 chapters since that last post. I have included a page under my stories for it. Please show your support by starting a free account and reading and voting for the chapters. Unlike the stories on this site, each chapter has a beginning, middle, and end kind of like a television episode. I’ll still be working on A Tail to Remember and Spark of Vengeance. The schedule is posted on the main page.

In Other News…

Zidane the furry one now has a new friend. Siegfried has joined our happy home so now I have two chinchillas to keep me amused by their quirky antics. In the middle of the month they will begin their introductions to see if they would like to share a cage or not. I’m crossing my fingers that they will completely love each other and be best friends for life!

It’s Alive!

My cross-genre/urban fantasy serial, Hidden Mystique is live now exclusively on Juke Pop Serials.

It’s a story about Becca Alexander and Kassie Madison, two cousins who are as different as night and day. The college roommates thought their bickering was the worst of their problems. They were wrong.  After a series of events the cousins soon find themselves caught in a web that leads them racing across the country in search of answers.  Their only aid is a mysterious benefactor who holds a rather pricy debt over the girls’ heads.  They discover nothing is as it seems.  Even themselves.

Any fans of the paranormal TV show, Supernatural might enjoy this. (If you ever wondered what it would have been like if Dean and Sam were two girls, Hidden Mystique has a similar premise that deals more with fantasy rather than  paranormal.  I even personally refer to the chapters as episodes. The chapters in fact run just like a television episode with a beginning, middle, and end.

Please check it out and give it a vote! Also feel free to comment. I’d love to have any feedback you wish to share!

Small Note With An Update

I’m still chipping away on my projects which include helping Doris with the anthology as well as editing/revising Quaking Tower as well as getting a head start on the next chapter for my serial that will only be available through JukePop.com, Hidden Mystique.

With that said, the new update for A Tail to Remember is a bit late but still here. I’ll be posting more information once I have more breathing room.

Not Whistling While I Work

Yes, I am still alive. Doris and I are still pushing to get the anthology ready to be published by the end of the month. It has been a lot of work, but it’s getting there. I’m also getting my second novel of my YA series The Crystal Garden Saga ready for September. Needless to say the convention may be over but my work is far from over. We are still planning out stuff for this year and the next. Be sure to keeping following us for even more awesome news.

In the meantime I have a short chapter for Spark of Vengeance for you to check out. Next week will be another one for A Tail to Remember. Until then!

Submissions Are Now Closed for Shadows of the Mind!

A big thank you to everyone who had submitted a short story to us. We’ve seen many truly exceptional entries! Any last minute submissions received prior to the closing at 11:59pm EST last night will be reviewed over the next few days. If you wished you could have submitted something but didn’t have enough time, don’t worry. We will be announcing open submissions for a new anthology shortly after Shadows of the Mind has been published so keep an eye out!

Projects Galore

With the anthology deadline looming in the distance my workload has increased drastically. Due to this chapter updates for A Tail to Remember and Spark of Vengeance will be on hold until the 19th of August. From there I’ll be back on schedule once again. I apologize for the delay, but as content editor I have my work cut out for me.

In the meantime, feel free to check out the first novel, Frozen Reflection of my YA fantasy series, The Crystal Garden Saga available for purchase in ebook and in print. It’s an adventure story involving a girl who begins to question her identity and reality as she is sent on a quest to break a curse. Here is the latest review for Media Hindsite:

Bianca Flynn expects her Sweet Sixteen to be a quiet celebration with her stepmother who she doesn’t much like, but when strange things start happening, Bianca realizes this birthday will be anything but ordinary. So begins a magical journey between two worlds with a lead character who is not only strong, but also very likable. The fantasy world created in this novel is vivid and beautiful. With a fast pace, the author moves us seamlessly between two worlds putting a new spin on an old fairy tale, which is at times charming and at times chilling. The story moves at such a good pace, you won’t want to stop reading. Truly enjoyable with twists that keep you guessing all the way through.
